I woke up and this was one of the first tweets I saw. After seeing this and getting a glimpse into the setup for the story of this game, I’m hooked. I’m glad that this game looks to focus on some rogues and way less iconic villains. From this trailer we see Deathstroke and Deadshot competing for a contract put out by Black Mask to kill Batman. This is shaping up to be potentially really amazing. And if it isn’t, we can always just go on YouTube and watch all the cutscenes pieces together. I’m sure the story is going to be amazing. What do you think of this? Could it out do Arkham City?

Here’s a little something I’ve been working on when I get a chance while at work. I suppose that’s a bad thing to admit on my blog but it’s encouraged. I promise. Technically speaking, it’s part of my job to understand as much of BB10 as possible. I could probably get it done a lot faster if I took it home, but this is kind of just a fun little thing I’m doing to learn a new language and improve some of my programming skills. 

The app is developed using BlackBerry 10′s native Cascades API available here. BlackBerry has done a great job at providing sample applications, an excellent amount of example code and even tutorials on how to port your application from iOS and Android to BlackBerry 10.

Having never used QML before and having only some experience using C++, diving in and working from scratch is a bit of a suicide mission. Fortunately, there are a ton of sample apps provided here, the one I chose to start with was tl;dr, an RSS reader. This being my first time ever using Cascades, piecing everything together was a little tricky, but after looking at chunks of code, reading the comments and checking out the API for better detail I started to get a good feel for me way around. Another great thing is working with developers that are more than happy to chat up code with you.

The great thing about working from sample apps is that they provide you a bit of a base to build your idea around. In this case, I just pull the feeds from different wordpress categories on my webpage and then allow the user to view the article from within the app or open it up in the browser.

The unfortunate thing about this is that it’s limited by what the RSS feed provides. I’d like to work some logic in that would maybe grab the first ten and as you scroll down increase the number of articles available. It would save on initial load time and not limit the user to what’s in the RSS feed (in my case, the latest ten articles). I’d also like to provide the option to locally store blogs for offline reading.

Long story short, there’s a lot I would like to do, just need to put the time into it.

Anyway, if I ever get this into a version I’m happy with, it may make its way to BlackBerry World, but until then, here are some screen shots of its current incarnation that’s not completely embarrassing. That being said, it’s not the most aesthetically pleasing app at the moment and uses mostly default themes save for some CSS I added to make things more readable.
