Digital Goods Services Should Provide a Way to Tip the Creator


Every month for the past few years I’ve been growing a library of “free” games from PlayStation’s PSPlus Subscription service. Some are good, some not so much, and some are simply… interesting. However, every once in a while there’s an absolute gem, often an indie title, that I become engrossed in and spend far more than a few hours with (looking your way Rocket League and Velocity). These are often games that I wouldn’t have tried if it were not for the PSPlus subscription but after spending so much time with them, I have this feeling of guilt that there’s little I can do to show my appreciation to the creators for their work. To start, I want to say, “Sorry, for my absence.” I know everyone missed my writing so much.

But we all know that isn’t true. I’m quite confident most of cyberspace doesn’t even know of my existence.

Moving on, the PSN Store comes back tomorrow and Sony is providing us with more than I think they owe us. I know there are a million and one people out there who’s lives depended on the PSN being up whether it be for DCUO or CoD clans or what have you, but to be honest, I personally didn’t notice. Mostly due to personal reasons but also because I don’t really play that many multiplayer games (though that will change with the purchases of FEAR 3 and Portal 2). I do however miss the PSN Store since I have cash sitting in there and I want to spend it.
