Here’s a little something I’ve been working on when I get a chance while at work. I suppose that’s a bad thing to admit on my blog but it’s encouraged. I promise. Technically speaking, it’s part of my job to understand as much of BB10 as possible. I could probably get it done a lot faster if I took it home, but this is kind of just a fun little thing I’m doing to learn a new language and improve some of my programming skills. Continue Reading…
Now, it’s not often I support mobile ports of games, however, Injustice Gods Among Us is not a port as far as I can tell. It’s built entirely for the mobile platform with controls that are gesture based and not stupid virtual buttons. It’s fun, simple and I highly recommend it. I downloaded it last night, and I’ve been having a blast playing it. The three on three battle system keeps things from being too easy, as you can swap in and out at any moment and as one character fights, the other’s special bars charge up so you can drop in and lay the smack down on a punk.
You only start off with three characters and there a ton of things to unlock which means hours can be spent playing this game. Costumes, power ups, support powers, lots to earn. Or you can do in app purchases to get it all.
I think it would be better with some online capabilities but that’s something that could always be added in the future.
Now, you may be asking, “But, Ryan, a game of this high quality must surely be pretty pricey in the App Store?” And you’re right, games this good usually do cost quite a bit, but this one doesn’t. It’s free, so go try it!
The video below mentions being tied into the console version in someway, for things like unlockables and achievements, so that’s pretty cool. Check it out and have a great weekend!
On April 1st, it’s very hard to trust anything on the internet. In fact, you can disregard most of what you read. Most years there are some damn good pranks that people play like IGN’s Legend of Zelda movie trailer, or the Nine Inch Nails new album produced by Timbalind, or pretty much anything YouTube or Google “announce” on April 1st. This year was a little lack luster. Google’s Nose didn’t even pique my interest and YouTube’s best video award lost it’s funny after about a minute. IGN’s prank this year would’ve had me believing it right to the end if it weren’t for the poor Johnny Ive over dub or the stupid camera angles. They could’ve really sold it if they didn’t start dipping into satire, but regardless, it’s still pretty damn funny.
And here’s YouTube’s so long as they can keep it going.
Now, I haven’t spent much time researching this organization, but it is backed by some people that I respect and look up to in some way. Also, the overall message that they’re trying to promote, in this video at least, is something that I 100% agree with. Everyone should learn how to code in some way, shape or form. Regardless, watch the video
Back at the beginning of January we had CES and with that came the introduction of a whole new platform for phones: Ubuntu. Here’s the video introducing it, it’s long but worth watching. It demonstrates some things that I believe mobile computing platforms have been avoiding and illustrates an amazing future for computing. I’ll let you watch the video then talk about my thoughts on it.
Samsung posted a couple of ads directly attacking BlackBerry, the problem is, aside from being bad, they’re out of date. Also, like some of their recent ads (*I Believe in a Thing Called Love*), pretty lame. Continue Reading…
For the last several months there have been rumours and “images’ of a Steam Box floating around the internet, and this has me excited. I consider myself a gamer and for the most part I’ve spent my life focused on console gaming for many reasons: no hardware requirements, no long installs, no serial keys (though neither are necessarily true anymore) and no hacking in online games. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love PC gaming, I just simply didn’t prefer because I never had a rig that could support it. Nor did I have the funds to build one. But I’ve always disliked the impossibility of being able to play cross platform gaming and for the most part, Steam seems to have slowly started to change all that, and if they create a console, this could change forever. iOS 6 came out a month ago, which has given me ample time to play around and fiddle with it on both my iPhone 4 and iPad 2. Overall I feel like there are some really good improvements in here, but it still doesn’t exactly feel like enough. Some new additions feel overwhelmingly pointless and some seem to force me into asking “why”? Continue Reading…
Backing up my computer is something I’ve mostly lazy to do pretty much my whole life, with the exception of things like movies and music. This has mostly been due to the fact that I never really found any software that made it really easy to schedule and perform the backups without any user intervention and would also do it when it’s convenient for me. At work we use Acronis to back up the server and Cobian Backup for my computer, both which are very simple to set up and maintain and are quite user friendly. But they also provide things like network backup which is fantastic for an office situation. Continue Reading…
I’ve gotten into this argument with several people now: Kinect is terrible for gaming, but amazing for just about everything else.
However, I will agree that Kinect is great for dancing and looking like a retard, and would be a great gaming device if XBox supported 3D, then all that depth perception it provides would actually be useful and it would actually look like you’re petting a giant tiger. Continue Reading…
